Chickens

Our meat birds are a Cornish cross breed, raised out on pasture while soaking up the sunshine. The pastures are surrounded by electrified high tensile perimeter fencing, which a subdivided by portable electric netting. The chickens safely hunt for bugs and worms, eating lots of grass as well as the grain mix that supplements their diet. Inside the netting are portable huts that we move every day onto fresh grass, and lock the chickens in at night for protection against predators. If a fox or coyote get through two electrified fences and a locked hut, well then, they've earned a chicken…(Just kidding).

We grow meat chickens from April through October, so that we can have a fresh weekly supply all season.
Old clothes make great scarecrows
When your favorite clothes are too worn to even wear working on the farm, making a scarecrow is a great way t o give them another life.
Arrival of baby chicks
Rocky, postmaster of Preston Hollow, has gotten used to the regular boxes of chicks, ducklings and turkey poults we receive. Yes, they come through the mail.
Baby chicks
When you take the chicks out of the shipping box, each one must have its beak dipped into the water, so they know where to find it
Chickens sitting in grass
This is what we mean by pastured poultry. Chickens raised out on grass, in the sunshine, free to roam.
