The Llamas

Our Llamas came in June from a local llama breeder. We had a surprise as  one was unexpectedly expecting and had her baby right before we bought her. Cinquenta, the black llama is this lucky mama. Her guard mate is Cabellera– we call her Cally for short. Cinquenta’s baby  or Cria (CrEE-UH) is Gaelically named Gead for his white tuft on his forehead (in Irish it means to have a white stripe on the forehead of a horse or cow).  Even though our llamas are ancestrally  from South America, we wanted to give our new nameless addition a Gaelic name to stay with our Irish roots. John made a llama shed on wheels that can be towed around the field by the farm truck, when we need to move it. It will provide the llamas/lambs shelter as well as a safe haven from predators as the llamas will push the lambs into the hut and guard the door– we also use it to corral them for worming/medical needs and halter practices.
