PigsThis is heaven for pigs. We keep the pigs in small batches of six or so in a several acre area, complete with dozens of apple, pear and nuts trees. The pigs wander up and down the hill, digging for roots, bugs and making club houses under the apple trees.They create their own mud holes from the numerous springs, and coat themselves to cool off and keep from getting sunburned. It's like SPF200. We concentrate on raising heritage breeds like Red Tamworth, Gloucester Old Spot and Ossabaw Island pigs. They have incredible tasting meat, and do very well in this "wilder" pastured setting. Acorns are their favorite treats. |
